Urban art has been and continues to be a transforming component within urban renewal processes, reinforcing memory, recovering the sense of place, and reducing stigmatization. This article delves into the role of urban art within the (physical-spatial) requalification and (symbolic) resignification processes in Urban Working-Class Settlements, analyzing how these processes are related to strengthening place attachment, sense of belonging, sense of security, and community organization, and trying to reflect on how they can affect deeper lying issues such as social and environmental risk. The methodology used is participatory action research, which was developed with the Santa Lucía Community in the Historic Center of San Salvador. Although the limitations of urban art are clear in the face of complex problems such as urban violence and environmental risk, the case of Santa Lucía reflects the potential of these interventions when they emerge as a collective and consensual expression, becoming an instrument of citizen vindication, strengthening community ties and organization

A detailed look at the Szczarba map

We explain how to derive an explicit formula for a natural transformation relating the (left adjoints of) the homotopy coherent nerve and the Dwyer-Kan simplicial classifying space functor. The formula is derived using a method introduced by Szczarba when comparing two different chain models of a fibration. This note may be taken as a companion to section 3 of our previous article "Categorical models for path spaces"

// Abstract: This research project is based on fuel cells (FC) of proton exchange membrane (PEM), as an element of production of clean renewable energy. In this research is expected to develop algorithms and techniques to make diagnoses on the failures that occur in the cells operation, which are not predictable. It is stated that by using software and hardware, can be characterized and generate a model that can simulate the electrochemical behavior of the fuel cell. To achieve these objectives formulated a cell of 4.5 kw will be installed on a dedicated exclusively to study the behavior under controlled conditions of the operating parameters of the cell area. The test results will be captured using virtual instrumentation and recorded in a database integrated with a computer system which will be used to design and validate the model that defines the cell. As a strategy this research methodology is divided into three stages, this paper addresses the first two stages with their results and the third is planned as a future expansion. Expected results at this stage are: the establishment of a Renewable Energy Center located on the campus of Engineering at the University APEC, the installation of the fuel cell, the design and installation of virtual instrumentation to capture information to validate the findings of studies on the functional failures of the PEM cell.Universidad APEC (UNAPEC)

Lexical Derivation of the PINT Taxonomy of Goals: Prominence, Inclusiveness, Negativity Prevention, and Tradition

What do people want? Few questions are more fundamental to psychological science than this. Yet, existing taxonomies disagree on both the number and content of goals. We thus adopted a lexical approach and investigated the structure of goal-relevant words from the natural English lexicon. Through an intensive rating process, 1,060 goal-relevant English words were first located. In Studies 1-2, two relatively large and diverse samples (total n = 1,026) rated their commitment to approaching or avoiding these goals. Principal component analyses yielded 4 replicable components: Prominence, Inclusiveness, Negativity prevention, and Tradition (the PINT Taxonomy). Study 3-7 (total n = 1,396) supported the 4-factor structure of an abbreviated scale and found systematic differences in their relationships with past goal-content measures, the Big 5 traits, affect, and need satisfaction. This investigation thus provides a data-driven taxonomy of higher-order goal-content and opens up a wide variety of fascinating lines for future research

The goal of this research project is to analyze the behavior of columns made with plain concrete and synthetic polypropylene/polyethylene fiber addition. In order to supplement the current data base, an experimental study was carried out on six columns of real size and ordinary concrete resistance confined by circular stirrups and subjected to constant axial loads and cyclic flexure. Three columns were built with concrete of normal resistance with 0% of synthetic fibers and three columns were built of concrete with 1% by volume of synthetic fibers. The used concrete strength varied from 25 to 42 MPa, the resistance of longitudinal steel was 510 MPa, that of the stirrups of 468 and 510 MPa and the axial factor load around 25% Ag f'c . Today, it is possible to explore the behavior in the plastic range of the structural elements under seismic loading. Predictions of behaviour of moment vs curvature as well as predictions of force vs displacement relationship were accomplished. Indeed, the comparison between the experimental results and the prediction made for the specimens with and without fibers shows a very good agreement. In the case of the prediction of the moment vs curvature relationship, the MNPHi software developed by [PAULTRE, 1996] was used and in the case of the prediction of force vs displacement relationship, software DISP96 developed by [LÉGERON, 1998] was used. Finally, the influence of tie spacement as well as addition of fibers were clearly observed. The results show that the presence of polypropylene/polyethylene fibers in the concrete matrix improves ductility, tenacity, and the capacity to dissipate energy. Also, they help to retain the cover concrete

As machine learning is becoming more prominent, introducing machine learn-ing in new environments requires skills and considerations from software engineering, machine learning and computer engineering, while also sharing their challenges from these disciplines. As democratization of machine learning has increased by the presence of open-source projects led by both academia and industry, industry practitioners and researchers share one thing in common: the tools they use. In machine learning, tools are represented by libraries and frameworks used as software for the various steps necessary in a machine learning project. In this work, we investigate the challenges in implementing machine learning systems in the industry
